Author Guidelines

Manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Child and Youth Psychology must be written in clear, fluent, scholarly Turkish or English.

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system. Manuscripts submitted by email will not be considered.

Authors are expected to review these Author Guidelines as well as the journal's Publication Policy and Publication Ethics before initiating a submission.

Submission Templates

Authors are encouraged to use the journal's current templates during submission and revision.

1. Title Page

Required at initial submission.

The title page contains author identities, affiliations, and manuscript declarations.

2. Anonymous Main Manuscript

Required at initial submission and revision.

To preserve double-blind peer review, this file must not contain information that directly or indirectly identifies the authors.

3. Cover Letter

Optional.

Authors may briefly explain the manuscript's original contribution, its relevance to the journal's aim and scope, and any other information they wish to communicate to the editors.

4. Response to Reviewers

Required for revised manuscripts.

Authors must respond to editorial and reviewer comments point by point and clearly indicate where corresponding revisions have been made.

Article Types

Research Article

Research articles report original empirical research and/or innovative theoretical analyses relevant to child and youth psychology.

Research articles should:

• not exceed 10,000 words, including references, tables, and figures;
• include Turkish and English abstracts of 150–250 words;
• provide 4–6 keywords;
• use a number of references appropriate to the study, with 60 references recommended as the usual upper limit for research articles.

Exceptions may be considered by the editors where scientifically justified.

Review Article

Review articles should provide a comprehensive, critical, and original synthesis of an important issue in child and youth psychology.

Systematic reviews, scoping reviews, meta-analyses, theoretical reviews, and conceptual reviews may be considered. Review articles should extend beyond a descriptive summary of the existing literature and provide meaningful synthesis, evaluation, or new theoretical insight.

Review articles should:

• not exceed 10,000 words, including references, tables, and figures;
• include Turkish and English abstracts of 150–250 words;
• provide 4–6 keywords.

No fixed reference limit is applied to review articles. References should be sufficient, relevant, and appropriate to the purpose and methodology of the review.

General Formatting Requirements

Manuscripts must be submitted in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

The manuscript should use:

• Calibri, 12-point font,
• double spacing,
• 2.5 cm margins on all sides,
• left alignment, and
• a 1.25 cm first-line paragraph indent.

Tables, figures, graphs, and other visual materials should be placed at the relevant position within the manuscript and formatted in accordance with APA 7.

Submission Files

At least two separate files are required at initial submission:

1. Title Page containing author and affiliation information.
2. Anonymous Main Manuscript with all author-identifying information removed.

Depending on the nature of the research, the editorial office may also require ethics approval documents, research permissions, instrument permissions, datasets, supplementary materials, or other supporting documentation.

Where ethics committee approval is required, the relevant approval information must be declared. Editors may request the original ethics approval document when necessary.

Title Page

The title page should include:

• full manuscript title in Turkish and English,
• names of all authors,
• academic titles,
• affiliations,
• ORCID identifiers,
• corresponding author's email address,
• funding information,
• conflict-of-interest statement,
• data availability statement,
• author contribution statement,
• ethics statement,
• informed consent statement where applicable,
• acknowledgements where applicable,
• disclosure of thesis, project, or conference origins where applicable.

Anonymous Main Manuscript

The anonymous manuscript must not contain author names, affiliations, ORCID identifiers, email addresses, acknowledgements, or other information that may reveal author identity.

The usual manuscript structure includes:

1. Title
2. Abstract — 150–250 words
3. Keywords — 4–6
4. Introduction
5. Method
6. Results
7. Discussion
8. Conclusion, where appropriate
9. References

Manuscript structure may be adapted where required by the study design or article type.

Citation and Reference Style

All in-text citations and references must conform to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th Edition (APA 7).

Authors are responsible for ensuring that every work cited in the manuscript appears in the reference list and that every work in the reference list is cited in the manuscript.

DOIs should be provided where available.

Revision Process

For revised manuscripts, authors must:

1. respond to each editor and reviewer comment individually,
2. describe the changes made,
3. provide a scholarly justification where a recommendation has not been followed,
4. upload the revised anonymous manuscript, and
5. upload a Response to Reviewers document.

Authors should ensure that neither the revised manuscript nor reviewer-response documents reveal their identity during double-blind peer review.
