Publication Policy

The Journal of Child and Youth Psychology is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published online under a continuous publication model.

The journal publishes original research articles and review articles in developmental and clinical psychology concerning children, adolescents, and young adults aged 0–29 years.

The publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English.

Open Access Policy

The Journal of Child and Youth Psychology is a fully open-access journal. All published articles are made freely and permanently available online immediately upon publication, without subscription or access fees.

The journal supports the open-access approach established by the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI) and promotes the broad dissemination and accessibility of scholarly knowledge.

Articles published in the journal are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

Under the CC BY 4.0 license, users may share, reproduce, redistribute, and adapt the material for any purpose, provided that appropriate credit is given, a link to the license is provided, and any changes made to the original work are indicated.

Editorial Evaluation and Peer Review

The journal operates a double-blind peer-review model. The identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process.

All submissions initially undergo editorial screening. At this stage, manuscripts are assessed with regard to:

  • compatibility with the journal's aim and scope,
  • scientific and scholarly quality,
  • basic methodological adequacy,
  • compliance with manuscript preparation requirements,
  • compliance with ethical principles, and
  • textual similarity.

Manuscripts that successfully complete the initial screening are assigned to an appropriate editor and sent to at least two independent reviewers.

Authors may be asked to revise their manuscript or provide additional clarification in response to reviewer comments. Where reviewer recommendations differ substantially, an additional reviewer may be invited.

Reviewer reports are an important component of the editorial assessment; however, the final decision to accept or reject a manuscript rests with the responsible editor.

Plagiarism and Textual Similarity Screening

Submissions may be screened for textual similarity using Turnitin before peer review.

The overall similarity percentage is not, by itself, considered evidence of plagiarism or an automatic criterion for acceptance or rejection. Editors assess the source, nature, extent, and context of textual overlap and whether relevant sources have been appropriately acknowledged.

A manuscript may be rejected at any stage of the editorial process if plagiarism, redundant publication, fabrication or falsification of data, or another serious violation of research or publication ethics is identified. Ethical concerns identified after publication are handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics and post-publication policies.

Acceptance and Publication Process

Following completion of peer review and any required revisions, the manuscript is reassessed by the responsible editor.

Accepted manuscripts undergo:

  1. editorial and technical checks,
  2. language and copyediting where necessary,
  3. typesetting and layout,
  4. final author proofing

before publication.

The final typeset version may be sent to the corresponding author for proofing before publication. At this stage, corrections should generally be limited to typesetting, production, or minor textual errors rather than substantial changes to the scientific content.

Publication Frequency and Continuous Publication

The Journal of Child and Youth Psychology follows a continuous publication model.

Articles that have completed the editorial and production processes may be published online without waiting for all articles assigned to an issue to be completed. This model is intended to facilitate the timely dissemination of scholarly research.

Publication Language

Manuscripts may be submitted in Turkish or English.

Authors are expected to provide the bibliographic metadata, abstracts, and other multilingual information required by the journal in both Turkish and English.

Fee Policy

The Journal of Child and Youth Psychology does not charge authors or readers at any stage of the publication process.

The journal does not charge:

  • submission fees,
  • peer-review fees,
  • article processing charges (APCs),
  • acceptance fees,
  • publication fees, or
  • subscription/access fees.

Editorial decisions are made independently of any financial payment or contribution.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright to their published works.

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Reuse requires appropriate attribution to the author(s) and the original publication, identification of the applicable license, and an indication of whether changes have been made.

Appeals

Authors may submit a scientifically reasoned appeal concerning an editorial decision or the evaluation process to the journal's editorial office.

Appeals should clearly identify the grounds on which the author challenges the decision. Where possible, appeals are considered independently of individuals who may have a conflict of interest in relation to the original decision.

Submission of an appeal does not automatically result in reversal of the editorial decision or renewed peer review.
